Miss Firecracker

On the 4th, we went to a small town 4th of July celebration a few miles away, and despite the insane heat, we had a wonderful time!

Riley was in a baby pageant, which they called the Little Mr and Miss Firecracker Pageant (such a cute name, huh?!). We found out about it after visiting a local shop a few weeks ago and thought it would be fun to enter. She was in a category of babies up to 2 years old, and with a category that large, there were a lot of festive cutie-pies. But guess what?! She was 1st runner-up!!! We were so excited for her! She received a participation ribbon, a toy photo book, and a gold dollar as her prize.

After the pageant, we found a nice shady spot under a tree and set out a blanket to sit on so we could take a break from the sun. That's were we took the photo shown above (plus, a ton more!). She's wearing one of her 4th of July outfits, the headband I made, and playing with (aka trying to eat) a pinwheel that my sister made for her.

There were a lot of different activities going on at the park that the 4th of July celebration was held at, and they even had a fun water play area at the park, too. The small water park spurted water from the ground, from the sides of benches, and from the top of a mini water tower-like thing. As you can imagine, it was overrun by kids of all ages (and adults, too!) trying to beat the heat. When the crowd cleared up a bit, we took Riley over so she could enjoy the water. We thought she would just love it because she's loves the water at bath time, but she did not like it at all. We tried taking her over there a couple of times, but she still wasn't a fan. Nope, not one bit. She just screamed. LOL! Perhaps, she'll like it better next year. :)

Hope you all had a great 4th of July!
